Who We Are

We are Christians.

First and foremost we are followers of Jesus Christ. We believe that He is the eternal Son of God who became a man through birth to a teenage mom that was still a virgin. He lived a life of perfect obedience to God, flawlessly fulfilling all 613 of the Old Testament commandments. He was betrayed by one of His disciples, arrested by the Jewish authorities, handed over to the Roman officials, and at the cries of an angry mob, was whipped, beaten and executed on a wooden cross. On that cross He paid the ransom for sinners like you and I. Three days later God raised Him from the dead and He is now seated at the right hand of God in Heaven. Someday He will come again to serve as judge over all humanity. We believe in all the miracles and events of the life of Jesus as told in the Gospels, as well as the other historical beliefs of the Christian faith.

We are Evangelicals.

We believe that the Gospel is the “good news” of forgiveness of sins and reconciliation with God through the substitutionary death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. By God’s grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone we are saved from sins power and penalty. This is the only way of salvation for all humanity regardless of country, color or creed. To be saved from God’s judgment and wrath people must hear this good news and respond in obedience through repentance and faith. We believe this Gospel is found in the Bible, which is the inerrant, inspired and authoritative Word of God; the only infallible rule of faith and practice.

We are Missional.

We believe that Christians are the body of Christ and as such are His hands and feet, carrying out His work in the world. Jesus has commissioned us to take the good news of forgiveness and life in Him to every people group on the face of the earth. We are also citizens in God’s kingdom, seeking that His will be done on earth as it is in heaven. This means we are to live by the ethics of the kingdom (Matthew 5-7); to love our enemies, and care for those in the margins of society.

God has placed us, both corporately and individually, among a particular people, at a specific point in history. We are called to be missionaries in our zip codes just as much as we are to people on the other side of the world. This means learning about the language and lives of the people in our city to effectively share the Gospel and see non-Christians come to faith, new churches started, and whole cities transformed.

Our mission as a church is to love God, love people, tell the world.

We are Reformed.

Reformed churches are those who believe in the complete sovereignty of God, the radical sinfulness of man, man’s inability to save or fix himself, and the sole sufficiency of Christ to reconcile people to God and care for them till the day of his return. They also celebrate the lives of men like Martin Luther, John Calvin, Ulrich Zwingli, and John Knox who fought theological error and corruption in the church even when it endangered their very lives. We identify with these churches and have much in common with them. On some issues (like baptism or church government), we have less in common with them than on other issues.

We are Continuationist.

Until Jesus returns, we believe it is intended to operate in basically the same way it did in the New Testament. Because of this we believe that gifts and demonstrations of God’s power, such as healing, speaking in tongues, and prophecy did not cease to exist with the death of the last apostle or the compilation of the Bible. Scripture clearly states that all believers have the gift of the Holy Spirit and that there is no gift from the Spirit enjoyed by all Christians. All Christians should see to be continuously filled with the Holy Spirit though, living under his influence, and desire the gifts he gives.
