OUR PASTORS & DIRECTORS
Pat Cottrell
Senior Pastor
Pat attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where he met both Christ as his Savior and his beloved wife, Camilla. Both have brought to him a life of joy, passion, and purpose. Pat graduated from Cal Poly with his BS in mechanical engineering in 1977 and was commissioned in the US Army. He served in the US Army for six years, three in Germany and three as a Special Forces A-team leader. He went into full–time vocational ministry in 1983, received his M.Div. from The Master’s Seminary in 1991, and was called as pastor of Calvary Baptist in 1990. Pat strives to faithfully shepherd believers to radically follow Jesus Christ and mobilize them to make disciples of their neighbors and the nations. He and Camilla are the grateful, growing parents of eleven children and nine grandchildren (and counting).
Steven Brooks
Pastor of Music & Arts
Steven has a passion for the local church and a desire for training, equipping, and mentoring worship leaders. He holds a Doctorate in Worship Studies (DWS) from the Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies. His primary interests are corporate worship, music in the church, and most importantly, spiritual formation in the life of the worshiper.
In addition to serving at Calvary Baptist, Steven teaches as an adjunct professor at Azusa Pacific University, Biola University and Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. He is also the founder of Worship Quest Ministries, which provides resources and training for worship renewal in churches: www.worshipquestministries.com.
Steven and his wife Brooke have two boys and in their free time you can find them at a baseball field or at the beach.
Dennis Davies
Pastor of Equipping Ministries
Dennis had served three years in the US Army (101st Airborne and 1st Special Forces), fifteen years with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, had two college degrees (AA and BA), was 34 years old, married, and had three children prior to responding by faith to the message of the gospel and making Jesus Christ both Savior and Lord of his life. He submitted his life to Christ in July 1984 and has been following hard after Christ ever since; serving in various ministries at Calvary including Men’s Ministry, High School Ministry, and Young Adult Ministry. Dennis retired as Captain from the Los Angeles County Fire Department after 32 years of service. Soon after leaving the Fire Service, he felt God’s call to full–time pastoral ministry and attended The Master's Seminary earning a M.Div. in 2005. He has three adult children who have blessed him with five wonderful grandchildren.
Mike Haugland
Pastor of Youth
Mike married his high school sweetheart Tiffany at 22 and has been married 20 years and counting. God has blessed them with 6 kids, Michael, Madison, Riley, Kyle, Dylan, and Abby. After spending 20 years of working in the secular workplace in title Insurance and financial planning, God called Mike and his family into full–time ministry. Serving as a children’s pastor these last 5 years in Orange County prepared and equipped Mike for God’s next call…Youth Pastor. Mike came on staff in September of 2014 here at Calvary Baptist Church. Partnering with parents and equipping them and their kids is Mike’s passion. Creating an engaging environment through mid–week programs, Sunday school and outreach activities for the youth are some of the ways we come alongside the parents to spur their children on to spiritual growth. Being passionate about the Lord is one of the foundations here in youth ministry and Romans 12:11 sums it up well, “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” Amen!
Ed LaLonde
Pastor of Care Ministries
After a 28 year career in law enforcement, Ed joined the staff at Calvary in 2004 where he oversees several ministries developed to build a sense of interdependence among those who worship here. Among Ed's greatest passions are discipling believers, seeing their personal relationship with Christ grow, and strengthening marriages on toward a “God centered, Christ exalting” one–flesh relationship that lasts a lifetime. Ed holds a degree in Biblical Studies from Moody Bible College. He and his wife, Robin, have been married for 40 years and have two adult children and four grandchildren. In his free time you will find him running, at the gym lifting, traveling, or playing with his grandchildren.
