SALT Groups

What are SALT Groups?

Here at Libby Christian Church we realize the need for closer relationships with each other. Our Church services provide the larger group fellowship that is necessary for worshiping together in songs of praise, communion, prayer and the preaching of God's Word.

But there is also a need for knowing people in ways that are not possible in larger group settings. We have small groups in the Church body to fill this need. We refer to them as SALT groups - for Serving Alongside in Life Together. These are small groups that meet in homes with the purpose of building friendships and providing support and encouragement for each other as we go through life together.

Talk to Dean now about joining a group. You can reach him at (406) 293-3747 or email: dean@libbychristianchurch.com.

The direction and purpose for our SALT groups is based on the following scripture taken from the Book of Romans.

Romans 12:9-16 (New Living Translation)

Don't just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. When God's people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.

Bless those who persecute you. Don't curse them; pray that God will bless them. Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with each other. Don't be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don't think you know it all!

SALT Group FAQ's:

What is a SALT group? It is a small group of people who meet together in a host home. Usually there are 8-20 members. This group meets together weekly and become a close support group for each other through building friendships and being together.

How do I find a group? Different groups meet on various nights of the week in the evenings. You may choose a group based on where you live and what night of the week you have available. Dean would be glad to talk to you about which group would work for you.

What do you do at a SALT group meeting? All of our groups are built on building our relationship with God and His Son Jesus, our Lord and Savior, and with each other. The study portion of the meeting will give you guidance and direction in studying God's Word together. Group discussions include real life issues and application of God's Word to our everyday lives and current living. Time for just being together and having fun visiting and occasionally sharing meals together is all part of being in a SALT group.

How long does the meeting last? We try to make sure the meetings last around 1 1/2 hours. Time for further visiting or sharing dessert together is an option if you have additional time to spend.

Are all the meetings the same each time? No, often times the group will set aside an evening for just visiting and having a meal together.

What if we have small children? Some groups have made arrangements for child care during the study portion of the meeting. These groups work together on helping provide care for the children during part of the time together.

Be sure to make a SALT group part of your connection at Libby Christian Church. Many blessings are in store for those who choose to come together and share their lives with one another.
