What to Expect with In-Home Studies
Our small groups are not traditional "student teacher" Bible studies. They are intended to foster discussion, self-study, and figuring out what God is saying to you through scripture. As such, there are no right or wrong answers to the questions posed in our studies. Through the sharing of our own personal stories, beliefs, and understanding, we seek to illuminate the meaning of the scripture being studied for each person in the group (but no one will tell you what that scripture should mean to you). Generally (but not exclusively), our groups use study books published by Serendipity House. You may find more information about Serendipity and their Bible study series at www.serendipityhouse.com. (Please note: They are a resource vendor and not affiliated with Metropolitan Community Churches.)
For the most part, our meetings follow this format:
1. Opening Prayer
2. Ice-Breaker (a "getting to know you" question or activity)
3. Bible Story
4. Questions & Discussion
5. Break (usually with snacks)
6. Sharing & Caring (where you may share what is going on in your life and make any prayer requests you want the group to pray for you until the next meeting)
7. Closing Prayer
Since there are no right or wrong answers, everyone is encouraged to participate in every disussion, and no one is permited to dominate any discussion. All opinions and thoughts are respected. Also, since people may be sharing earnestly and sometimes intimately, confidentiality is extremely important. We ask that you respect the other group members' privacy and not discuss what is shared in the group with other people.
