S.O.A.P. Bible Study Info

S.O.A.P. is a Bible reading method that makes spending time with Jesus simple and practical. S.O.A.P. stands for:

Scripture, Observation, Application and Prayer. Reading the Bible can be intimidating. This method helps interact with Scripture and easily apply it to life. All of the Bible points to Jesus. Therefore, one of the greatest ways to get to know Jesus is through reading the Bible!

Our goal is that through these 40 days, you will be able to hear what Jesus is speaking to you personally through your time with Him. Here's how to do S.O.A.P. You'll need three things: your Bible (book or app), your #40days journal and a pen or pencil.

Scripture:

Each day, a passage is provided on the back of the bookmark. Also, you can find the passage posted on our Facebook page. Take some time to read through it slowly. What verse or phrase speaks to you? Write it in your journal.

Observation:

Take a close look at the verse or phrase you just wrote down. What are some observations you can make from this passage? What do you think God is saying to you in this scripture? What stands out to you? Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you and reveal Jesus to you.

Application:

It's time to personalize what you read. How does this verse apply to your life? Perhaps it is instruction, encouragement, a new promise, or corrections for a particular area of your life. Write how this scripture can apply to you today.

Prayer:

Write our a prayer for today. This can be as simple as asking God to help you use this scripture, or even a prayer for a greater insight on what He may be revealing to you. Remember, prayer is a two-way conversation, so be sure to listen to what God has to say!

This is an effective way to both record and process what God is speaking to you. It's also a useful tool to use later when you want to reflect on and review what you have received. Without writing them down, you may forget your insights and thoughts. Furthermore, while journaling is a very personal time with the Lord, you may want to share some of your daily journaling with your small group, spouse, or friend, so having a written record becomes very important.
