Homeless Outreach
Jesus calls us to love our neighbors (Mark 12:31) and to care for the poor (Deut. 15:7; Isa. 58) and so when members of SCC learned that our neighbors included a large homeless community on the Albany Bulb, they began to reach out and build relationships. For over four years, men and women from our community have shared a meal with the Bulb community every Thursday bringing the love of God in both word and deed. Our vision is to meet these people where they are at and through genuine relationships, giving them the physical and spiritual bread they desire.
Project HOPE
The city of Albany has recently asked SCC to partner with Berkeley Food and Housing Project (BFHP) in Project HOPE (Housing Opportunities Extended) which is seeking to provide housing for those living on the Bulb. Through Project HOPE, we are looking to provide housing for as many people as are interested. We understand that homelessness is complicated and that we are not going to solve this issue, but we do desire to be present in our community and provide basic human needs of water and shelter to our friends on the Bulb. Want to get involved?
• Pray! To provide housing, God must transform hearts, provide housing opportunities, overcome complex physical, spiritual, mental, and social barriers
• Join us on Thursdays at 4:00pm for our weekly gathering at the amphitheater right by the beach
• Consider being an advocate, assisting people as they transition into housing
• Provide property to rent -- many people have fixed income but need people who are willing to rent without renter history, good credit, etc.
• Provide employment opportunities such as construction and painting or even purchase their artwork
