The Gift of Life is the theme for this fall's session. As society increasingly views life through a pragmatic and scientific lens, this series will hel participants examine current life issues from a biblical perspective.
CONCLUDED: Luther's Small Catechism through Adult Eyes
This is study of the six chief parts of the Christian faith as they are taught in Luther’s Small Catechism. The study will emphasize the scriptural background for the Catechism’s teachings and provide discussion of questions and applications that often do not occur to junior confirmation class students.

The Augsburg Confession was presented on June 25, 1530 as a statement of the chief articles of faith, as believed and taught by Lutherans. The class will include study of these articles of faith, the Scripture from which they are drawn, and contemporary application.

CLASS CONCLUDED: "Just by Faith Alone: Paul's Message and Its Meaning" will be led by Dr. Mark Seifrid. What does it mean that God justifies us by faith? What difference does it make for the way that we relate to God, and to others? This course will study the key biblical passages in the Pauline Epistles on Justification by faith, especially in Romans and Galatians, in order to understand this crucial biblical teaching. Dr. Mark Seifrid is Professor of Exegetical Theology at Concordia Seminary and new member of St. Paul’s. He has published dozens of articles and books on New Testament theology and on Paul’s teaching on justification, in particular.

Parables of Jesus: Revealing What Was Hidden

Some of Jesus' most familiar--and at time, most puzzling--teachings came in parables. Yet through them Jesus made known who He was, what He came to do, and what life in Him looks like even in our complex world. Each session will discuss the gospels and the "many things...Jesus was teaching them in parables (Mark 4:2). Class will be led by Dr. Jeff Kloha. No registration required.

"The Diffcult Psalms" led by Dr. Paul Raabe, professor of Old Testament at Concordia Seminary. Many Old Testament Psalms are easily adopted by Christians for their prayer and praise. However, there are some Psalms that can make Christians uncomfortable, such as those that complain about the silence and hiddenness of God and those that pray for God to destroy the Psalmist's enemies. During this session of Institute we will study the tough Psalms. Everyone is welcome.
